Fix Your Brand Messaging by Halloween in Three Steps

A free version of the process we use at Prologue
Maybe this makes me bad at what I do, but I'm giving away three steps you can run yourself to fix your brand's messaging by Halloween. Without hiring us.
These are real pieces of our process. Not a watered-down teaser. If you run them honestly, you'll come out the other side with messaging that sounds like you and nobody else.
Step 1: Interview Your Team, Then Interview Your Customers
Marketing interviews sales, leadership, and customer service. Same three questions for every person. What does our company do? Where do we win and where do we lose? What are the top three things we should be talking about in market?
Do it live, not over email and you can't dig in more via email when it gets interesting. People edit themselves in writing. Record the calls so you're listening for language, not scribbling notes.
Then interview 5 to 10 recent customers. Ask what pain you actually solved for them. Ask what almost stopped them from buying.
Now compare the two sets of answers.
The gap between what your team says and what your customers say is your positioning problem.
The overlap between what you do and what customers said they valued is your real story.
Rewrite your messaging around the overlap. Everything else is internal noise you've been paying to broadcast.
Step 2: Audit Yourself Against Your Competitors
Use AI to digest your website, your sales deck, and the websites of your top five competitors. Feed it all in and ask for the phrases that repeat across the set.
Build a heat map of the language the whole industry uses. Best-in-class. Trusted partner. Innovative solutions. Customer-first.
If everyone is saying it, it's white noise and your buyers skip it. Check that against your customer interviews. If no customer used the phrase to describe you, that's your confirmation.
Every phrase of yours that shows up on five competitors' sites has to become something specific enough to be verified. Swap "fast turnaround" for the actual number of hours. Swap "trusted" for the actual client name.
The test is simple. Cover your logo. If a competitor could run your homepage copy tomorrow with no edits, you don't have messaging. You have wallpaper.
Step 3: Build Objection-Handling Into the Messaging Itself
Ask sales for every objection they hear. All of them. Then rank by how often each one shows up and how often it kills the deal.
Take the top four. Write the real answers. The ones your best rep gives on the phone when the room goes quiet, not the version legal and marketing sanded down.
Then assign them. Your homepage pre-answers objection number one. Case studies knock out two and three. The sales deck closes number four before the call ever happens.
It sounds obvious. So why do most marketing departments default to features and stats?
Because objections are uncomfortable and features are safe. Safe messaging loses deals quietly, which is why nobody gets fired for it.
That's the Recipe
We go deeper in our Story Discovery Audits with competitive AI intelligence, operational analysis, and a full diagnostic report. But if you run these three steps yourself, you'll be a long way ahead in eight weeks.
If it sounds like a lot of work, it is. Doing this right is hard, which is why most brands I talk to have never attempted it.
Your messaging will be sweeter than a handful of candy corn by Halloween.
If you'd rather have our team run it with you, here's how we work. And here's how you can reach out.
